Each year, across the nation, one event brings together entire communities to take part in the fight against cancer. That event is the American Cancer Society Relay For Life®.
It is a time and place where people come to
· celebrate those who have survived cancer,
· remember those we’ve lost, and
· fight back against a disease that touches too many lives!
In 2008, an estimated 97,281 Texans will be diagnosed with cancer (that is more than 266 PER DAY average) and an estimated 38,037 Texans will die of the disease (that is more than 104 PER DAY average). This is NOT acceptable and we are going to FIGHT BACK! We are going to fight back against this disease, fight in memory of our loved ones and in honor of our survivors. We will fight for treatment that is more effective, more research, increased services and advocacy for laws to help those affected by cancer. WE SHALL FIGHT UNTIL THE CURE IS FOUND!
In 2007, Cherokee County had over thirty teams, we honored the attendance of 142 survivors and we raised over $87K...our goals for this year are 50 teams, 250 survivors and $100K.
It’s not just an opportunity to celebrate, remember, and fight back. Your involvement will help the American Cancer Society work toward a mission of eliminating cancer as major health issue and will support much-needed services in our community. Thanks in part to the donations from Relay For Life and other events, the Society is saving lives, helping those touched by cancer, and empowering people to fight this disease all over the world.
